Hi and welcome to blog post #5. Since the last blog post I have completed the first rendition of Barthalamew’s retopology. I wasn’t happy with the original retopology, so I took the nuclear route and started again from scratch (which was the best decision I could’ve made. Since starting retopologizing, I have learned many tips and better ways of going about it, this latest version took me one weekend versus the prior that took at least a week. I was able to add in the claws, and whiskers and the loops needed for rigging a character. The lines are much straighter and lead into each other better. The only thing I want to work on additionally is the face geometry, specifically the mouth. The ears, eyes, and nose all have their loops but the mouth could use some fixing up, which considering where I was a few weeks ago I’d say this is a big improvement.
I sent over his current retopology over to layout this week and a, waiting for him to get approved by my team. I also started working on some “fallen” yarn soldiers today as I needed a little break from Barthalamew. I plan to get them done this weekend since they aren’t as extensive as Barthalamew was, then get back to work on creating his sweater version (which hopefully shouldn’t take nearly as long as the original 🤞)
Other than that, finally happy to be done with the first pass of Barthalamew and I’m looking forward to seeing how he changes in the future! Here are some photos of the new topology for Barthalamew and some W.I.P photos for the little yarn guys as well.
